Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems, generate recommendations, and then develop/implement solutions to correct and resolve
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new automation platforms and instrumentation
  • Provide technical delivery & support of automation systems, digital solutions, and networks & integrations, related to the Analytical Development

Contract

Candidate requirements

  • Experience with complex laboratory workcells and orchestration
  • Experience with automated/automating data flows from testing design through analytical equipment and into LIMS/ELN systems
  • Experience in systems/account administration, network design, and server troubleshooting
  • Experience in the general functions of sample management and relational databases
  • Experience in design, programming, start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting of integrated laboratory equipment with electronic data and archive systems
  • Experience of the requirements for computer system and software validation to deliver successful outcomes in a regulated environment
  • Attention to detail and good communication and documentation skills
  • Thorough understanding of the drug development process and operational aspects of delivering clinical trials
  • Highly motivated and efficient team player with a proactive attitude, excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience programming, preferably on an automated liquid handler platform
  • Drive performance through further digitalization, building end user capability and championing digital transformation
  • Experience developing and executing biopharmaceutical assays/methods and operating/troubleshooting laboratory equipment

As a Senior Automation Scientist, you will provide engineering and technical support of automated/digital solutions as part of the Analytical Platforms & Platform Modernization (AP&PM) organization. You will demonstrate ownership of site owned lab automation systems and solutions through development, day-to-day support, continuous improvement, and project delivery.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide technical delivery & support of automation systems, digital solutions, and networks & integrations, related to the Analytical Development (AD) department. Troubleshoot and diagnose problems, generate recommendations, and then develop/implement solutions to correct and resolve.

  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to design, develop, and deploy automation solutions for analytical workflows to increase efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain automated systems, primarily Hamilton STAR liquid handlers, for optimal functionality and minimal downtime and execute changes in a way that meet standards aligned to various quality systems (e.g. computer system validation, change control, etc.).
  • Drive performance through further digitalization, building end user capability and championing digital transformation.
  • Work together with stakeholders – R&D, Manufacturing, Validation – regarding method development, alignment of equipment & software, test/validation efficiency, and analytical method tech transfer.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new automation platforms and instrumentation.
  • Highly motivated and efficient team player with a proactive attitude, excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BS/BA in Engineering, Life Sciences, Computer Science, or equivalent technical discipline
  • 2+ years technical or scientific industry experience
  • Experience programming, preferably on an automated liquid handler platform (e.g. Hamilton, Tecan, etc.)
  • Experience developing and executing biopharmaceutical assays/methods and operating/troubleshooting laboratory equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience coding data structures (e.g. JSON, XML)
  • Experience of the requirements for computer system and software validation to deliver successful outcomes in a regulated environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the drug development process and operational aspects of delivering clinical trials.
  • Experience with complex laboratory workcells and orchestration (e.g. Green Button Go, Cellario, Momentum)
  • Attention to detail and good communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience in design, programming, start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting of integrated laboratory equipment with electronic data and archive systems
  • Experience in systems/account administration, network design, and server troubleshooting
  • Experience in the general functions of sample management and relational databases
  • Experience with automated/automating data flows from testing design through analytical equipment and into LIMS/ELN systems.
