Responsibilities

  • As an Undergraduate Electrical Engineer working within Control and Instrumentation, you will be part of a growing multi-disciplinary team, developing solutions to complex technical questions, and in-service upgrades, for existing and future Submarine platforms within the Engineering function, working on our Dreadnought Submarines.
  • You will be working across the breadth of the engineering design lifecycle, to support the current projects and future bidding activity of the department. You will assist, in providing professional engineering services to meet the future operational needs of naval platforms, the Submarine business and customer programmes.
  • Developing integrated engineering solutions focussed on the electronic control systems which are the brains of our products.
  • From requirements and control architecture develop instrumentation equipment selection, integration, test and through life support you will be embedded amongst experts in the control systems field.
  • Contributing to high integrity designs with your base knowledge of electrical principals, control systems theory and/or knowledge of micro-electronics.
  • Calculations to considered reports on component selection to designs for Human Machine Interfaces.
  • Analysis of impacts on Control systems due to Engineering Change you will be part of a team focussed on a safe effective product.

Job Title Industrial Placement Submarines Electrical Engineer

Location Barrow (Cumbria)

Start Date 23rd June 2025

BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Industrial Placement Programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Skills

As a minimum requirement you'll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Electrically biased Marine engineering or electrically biased Physics.

To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
