Are you looking for an Engineering Management role leading capital projects over facilities and infrastructures? If so, this is the job for you.

As Associate Director of Facilities, you will provide ongoing engineering support to R&D Engineering Operations and will be responsible for Facilities Services and Capital Projects program management in the New England Region (Cambridge, MA). This will include the development and improvement of processes that support the operational delivery model and interfaces with other GSK functions, service partners and other 3rd party providers.

The purpose of this role is to support the consistent delivery of facilities and services, working to ensure they are aligned to the local needs and priorities of the business, and to ensure that cost, quality and compliance metrics are achieved by key contract partners.

  • As Responsible Person, ensure compliance to Quality and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements and ensure that the Engineering activity is a safe place to work and ‘inspection ready' at all times. Will specialize in one or more of these High Severity Risk statutory systems such as:
  • Asbestos containing materials
  • Pressure Systems (steam boilers)
  • Hazardous utility systems
  • Cooling Towers & domestic water systems (legionella)
  • Construction / demolition works
  • Building life safety systems
  • High voltage electrical
  • Stored bulk liquid & gas
  • Fixed & mobile lifting systems
  • Hazardous waste management
  • Conduct site audits of contractor work being conducted at the site to ensure compliance with national, local and GSK standards.
  • Manage “ad-hoc” business projects as required by RDES Site Operations Director.
  • Represent FM needs and priorities into RDES budgeting process and Tower service specifications.
  • Determine site facilities and utilities development needs and priorities in conjunction with contract partners. Represent these needs and priorities into RDES service towers.
  • Maintain ethics and compliance values even when potential risk exists.
  • Execute remediation plans from policy gap assessments. Escalate risks and/or conflicts with local customer's ways of working.
  • Deploy compliance processes locally and identify/escalate operational risks to governance teams.
  • Additionally, you will support the Site's safety needs, championing EHS principles across the site and collaborating with management and staff to continuously enhance EHS performance.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar degree
  • 8+ years' experience in the management of complex facilities support services to a large office or pharmaceutical facility
  • 3 years' Experience in the Research & Development process & needs in lab environments

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

Experience in Six Sigma/Lean/Operational Excellence

Understand/experience in GxP requirements.

Experience with complex Service Contracts

Leadership skills that enable the introduction of new ways of working and accelerated change management

Must be able to interact well with peers, subordinates, and senior personnel in scientific, engineering, and operational disciplines.

Must be comfortable and thrive in ambiguity and think strategically to solve complex problems.

Sense of Urgency / Decision making

Strong interpersonal skills

Must be able to generate options to resolve problems, prioritize solutions and implement decisions.

Must be competent in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong technical knowledge of risk management and safety principles in lab environments
