Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and maintain systems through best management practices and routine housekeeping
  • Monitor and maintain river, filtered, and drinking water reservoirs
  • Conduct routine rounds to ensure all equipment, lift stations, and facilities are operating as intended
  • Conduct laboratory process analyses to comply with state NPDES permit limitations
  • Monitor and interpret control system instrumentation to make process changes to ensure efficient and compliant operation of the facilities
  • Maintain and oversee repairs to water distribution lines
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain Holston's Industrial Wastewater, Sanitary Wastewater, and Water Treatment Facilities
  • Operate facility for dewatering of biological and alum sludge

Contract

40 hours per week

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Water Services Operator at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN.

The Water Services Operator will:

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain Holston's Industrial Wastewater, Sanitary Wastewater, and Water Treatment Facilities.
  • Conduct laboratory process analyses to comply with state NPDES permit limitations.
  • Monitor and maintain river, filtered, and drinking water reservoirs.
  • Monitor and interpret control system instrumentation to make process changes to ensure efficient and compliant operation of the facilities.
  • Conduct routine rounds to ensure all equipment, lift stations, and facilities are operating as intended.
  • Operate facility for dewatering of biological and alum sludge.
  • Maintain and oversee repairs to water distribution lines.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily following established standards, codes, and safe work practices and procedures. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

  • Typically requires a High School diploma, or the equivalent.
  • Physical effort and dexterity required to support standing and walking for extended periods of time, using hands to finger/handle/feel, and regularly lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Communication skills, verbal and listening, particularly when using a 2-way radio to disseminate information effectively to others.
  • Ability to use sense of smell.
  • Visual ability to differentiate colors on test equipment and gauges.
  • Must have the ability to support on a 12-hour shift with occasional call-in and overtime.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to cross-train in water filtration and wastewater operations.
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in Wastewater operations.
  • Certification in Wastewater Treatment.
  • Experience in water filtration operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.

Pay Information

This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
