Responsibilities

  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done
  • To solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy
  • Identification and implementation of improvements to the bank's control testing processes and procedures
  • Collaboration with other control professionals to resolve complex issues and ensure consistent testing methodologies across the bank
  • Performance of independent testing of internal controls, including manual and automated testing techniques, to assess their effectiveness in mitigating identified risks
  • Enjoys working as part of a team across a broad range of topics and stakeholders
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function
  • To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness
  • Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions

Contract

40 hours per week

Candidate requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience of supporting stakeholder discussions on work performed
  • Strong understanding of Assurance or Internal Audit methodologies
  • Experience working with Legal or Financial Services stakeholders
  • Ability to deliver high quality work in a timely and structured manner
  • Prior experience of working in an Assurance or Internal Audit role
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function

Join us as a Legal Assurance AVP at Barclays, where you'll play a key role in delivering Legal Assurance Reviews, contributing to the creation and refresh of the Legal Assurance Plan, as well as supporting the development of the Legal Assurance capability as this embeds.

Key skills required for this role include:

  • Prior experience of working in an Assurance or Internal Audit role.
  • Strong understanding of Assurance or Internal Audit methodologies (including risk assessment, developing testing strategies, documenting work performed and drafting potential issues).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience of supporting stakeholder discussions on work performed (including potential issues).
  • Ability to deliver high quality work in a timely and structured manner.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team across a broad range of topics and stakeholders.

Additional skills include:

  • Assurance or Audit professional qualification(s).
  • Experience working with Legal or Financial Services stakeholders
  • Practical Data Analytics skills

This role is based in Glasgow on a structured hybrid basis.

Purpose of the role

To safeguard the bank's assets and operations by independently assessing the effectiveness of internal controls across various business units and systems.

Accountabilities

  • Development of detailed test plans and procedures that comprehensively assess the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
  • Performance of independent testing of internal controls, including manual and automated testing techniques, to assess their effectiveness in mitigating identified risks.
  • Identification and implementation of improvements to the bank's control testing processes and procedures.
  • Collaboration with other control professionals to resolve complex issues and ensure consistent testing methodologies across the bank.
  • Preparation of detailed reports summarising the testing results, highlighting key findings and recommendations for remediation.
