Responsibilities

  • Intelligence & Security (I&S), based in McLean, Virginia, designs and delivers advanced defense, intelligence, and security solutions that support the important missions of our customers
  • Ensuring that the material loaded is correct by verifying the shipping documents
  • Follow commercial driving regulations, including maintenance of required documentation such as Truck and Driver logs
  • Ensure the safety of all loads by following regulations for strapping and securing, such as the FMCSA guidance
  • Review and utilize shipping documents such as Commercial Bill of Ladings and prepare and review local manifests to ensure that outbound and local shipments are properly executed
  • Perform daily truck inspections prior to operating any vehicle
  • Offload and load material on trucks for local and commercial delivery by hand or with MHE

Job Description

BAE Systems in St. Mary's, GA is seeking an SCA Truck Driver, Heavy and Tractor Trailer for the Transportation Branch of the Strategic Systems Program's supply warehousing operation.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Transport, deliver and pickup goods or equipment by light, medium, and/or heavy truck/tractor trailer
  • Follow commercial driving regulations, including maintenance of required documentation such as Truck and driver logs
  • Perform daily truck inspections prior to operating any vehicle
  • Ensure the safety of all loads by following regulations for strapping and securing, such as the FMCSA guidance
  • Ensure that 49 CFR regulations for placarding hazardous loads are followed
  • Participate in ordnance handling evolutions and operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
  • Offload and load material on trucks for local and commercial delivery by hand or with MHE (i.e. pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.) ensuring that the material loaded is correct by verifying the shipping documents
  • Review and utilize shipping documents such as Commercial Bill of Ladings and prepare and review local manifests to ensure that outbound and local shipments are properly executed
  • Review and provide recommendations for changes to local operating procedures and occasionally participate interviews of SSP Logistics Documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

This position is controlled by the Service Contract Act (SCA) and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Minimum education and years of related work experience required: High School Diploma/GED, possess a valid Class "A" CDL, possess a current DOT Physical Card, have the willingness and ability to lift up to 40 pounds in weight, possess a clean driving record and the ability to work independently as well as with a team of truck drivers.

Pay Information

This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
