Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a complex design
  • Support schedule, budget, and technical discussions with manufacturers, customers, engineers, and all levels of management
  • Resolve complex design challenges and establish a finalized design approach
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws

  • Knowledge of vendor capabilities that have innovative techniques within the field of resolving battery cell technical challenges
  • Ability to take ownership of Design-To-Cost (DTC) objectives in order to optimize overall final price targets
  • Must have keen interest in solving highly complex design challenges with battery cell packaging

Controls and Avionics Solutions provides flight and mission- critical products to more than 170 commercial and military customers around the world. Our US Controls and Avionics Solutions products include fly-by-wire flight controls, pilot controls (inceptor systems), full authority digital engine controls (FADEC), power management systems, flight deck systems, cabin management systems, weapon controls, autonomous flight systems, and mission systems for the world's most prominent commercial and military aircraft manufacturers.

As a Product Design Engineer, you would be playing a role in any of our 2 key business areas collaborating with a team of designers supporting a variety of designs whether it be within our heavy truck, transit bus customers or avionics customers including the support of aircraft electrification efforts.

In this Principal Product Design Engineer opportunity, you will make impacts in the following ways:

  • Assist in the development of a complex designs involved in electronics that support avionics, transit bus or heavy-duty truck applications
  • Summarize analytical results, and present as appropriate.
  • Interface with internal operations, other engineering disciplines, and suppliers
  • Resolve complex design challenges and establish a finalized design approach
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across the functions, from suppliers to BAE manufacturing, to achieve the optimal design and manufacture of the product.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline with 8+ years related experience.
  • Must have keen interest in solving highly complex design challenges with battery cell packaging.Experience in resolving Thermal Runaway, Cell Venting, Charging/Discharging Thermal Impacst, ect.
  • Knowledge of vendor capabilities that have innovative techniques within the field of resolving battery cell technical challenges.
  • Knowledge in electronics packaging for high voltage/high power designs.
  • Understanding of Thermal/Structural analysis and design impacts.
  • Understanding of lightweight materials (i.e composites) and manufacturing processes.
  • Requires excellent communication skills. Support schedule, budget, and technical discussions with manufacturers, customers, engineers, and all levels of management.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities, and thrive in a fast paced, schedule driven environment.
  • Exhibit sound interpersonal skills when interfacing and coordinating with company personnel, customers, and suppliers.
  • Ability to take ownership of Design-To-Cost (DTC) objectives in order to optimize overall final price targets

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with Battery Cell Packaging
  • Experience with High Voltage/High Power Electronics Packaging
  • Understanding of DO-311 Certifications
  • Knowledge of particular vendors within battery cell packaging.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD software tools.
  • Understanding of Thermal/Structural Analysis

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $102200 - $173700

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
